Frida Hyvönen – Silence Is Wild

In me like lots, music, tahlia's on June 18, 2010 at 6:18 pm

swedish sing-songwriter, grew up in robertsfors, a town just outside umeå. i really like her music, as it mostly combines piano with her rather interesting voice. my favourite song from this album is ‘oh shanghai’, as you can hear the essence of traditional sounding chinese music, yet with her style still very apparent.

Malfunkshun – Return to Olympus

In i reccomend, music, tahlia's on June 13, 2010 at 6:44 pm

malfunkshun, along side green river, is considered one of the pioneers of grunge. they have roots of glam and hard rock, but basically created this whole other genre called grunge. their other band is mother love bone. to me, this whole album is appealing and not real ‘in your face’. favourite song would definitely be ‘i wanna be yo daddy’, regardless how odd the song name sounds.

ROVO – Imago

In i reccomend, lauren's, music on June 10, 2010 at 2:56 pm

ROVO were formed in japan by former boredoms guitar seiichi yamamoto, back in 1996. they use a hands-on method of creating a kind of music which is usually produced entirely electronic. this album is filled with beautiful experimental/psychedelic tunes and i consider it truly amazing. one of the drummers/percussionists is also from another legendary japanese band: “ground zero”, adding another reason as to why i like ROVO so much.

Green River – Rehab Doll/Dry as a Bone

In i reccomend, me like lots, music, tahlia's on June 10, 2010 at 2:20 pm

if you’re not used to grunge, i’d recommend this album, its catchy if you’re into heavier guitars. they also one of the pioneers of grunge music, back in the late 80’s, and as we all know, grunge formed in seattle, so these guys are seattle born and bred. one of my favourite grunge bands out there, and far better than some bands in the grunge scene that everyone knows about. ‘stand out song’ as lauren would say; is ‘ozzie’.

Shiina Ringo – 三文ゴシップ

In i reccomend, lauren's, music on June 8, 2010 at 11:36 pm

三文ゴシップ / superficial gossip would have to be my favorite shiina release. being her latest album (release: 2009), i have to say the queen has outdone herself with this one. you may recognize her talented voice from the band ‘tokyo jihen’. i hear lots of jazzy, pop, experimental tones in this album and i can’t stop putting ‘marunouchi sadistic (EXPO VER.)’ on repeat, it’s that good. whether you’re a japanese music fan or not, i reccomend you listen to shiina ringo! she’s the best!

In music, tahlia's on June 8, 2010 at 8:08 pm

i really like this, its just such a cute sounding album, very happy sounding! it basically cheered me up these past few days. all their songs are great, in my opinion, so i’m gonna make this short and sweet.

Stridsmenn – Stridsmenn

In me like lots, music, tahlia's on June 7, 2010 at 10:11 pm

i have a real soft spot for black metal, especially from the norwegians, they seem to make beautiful black metal, if you agree with me that black metal is beautiful. the only album they have so far combines raw power along with some beautiful melodies of soft traditional sounding music. overall i think it is a real piece of art, and they should have some more recognition. i really love the track ‘nattestid’ from this album, it is also their only full melodic song.

Susumu Ueda – One Litre Of Tears OST

In i reccomend, lauren's, music on June 7, 2010 at 9:28 pm

this is a beautiful soundtrack to a beautiful drama! the japanese drama follows the story of a girl with a terminal illness and the hardships she has to overcome. i recommend you should see it, as i cried over one litre of tears! the songs are piano / violin based and very well composed. my personal favorites from the OST are ‘seimei aru kagiri -sub theme-‘ & both versions of ‘only human’.

Bone Awl – Not For Our Feet

In i reccomend, lauren's, music on May 23, 2010 at 4:31 pm

bone awl are a black metal from california that formed in 2002. the two members are known as ‘he who crushes teeth’ & ‘he who gnashes teeth’. my friend showed me this album a few weeks ago, and i kind of fell in love with the raw, primitive sound of each of the songs. if you know me, you know i love noisy kind of albums like this one. stand out tracks are ‘without hate we have nothing’ & ‘leave me here’.

Boredoms – Chocolate Synthesizer

In lauren's, music on May 23, 2010 at 4:21 pm

i’ve shown you boredoms at their mellow and calm state, but this album definitely showcases how crazy they can get! this album is basically eYe yelling and the other band members following & repeat. i guarantee you that it sounds amazing. i reccomend it to anyone with an open mind to music and enjoys not so serious songs! especially the track ‘acid police’. it always sounds like they are saying something like “i sell portishead” or “oh shit, paul is dead” etc. this album is worth a listen, but it sounds like nothing like vision creation newsun.
